Herrenchiemsee

I took a train from Munich, where I lodged, to Herrenchiemsee. At the main station there is a small train that runs to the landing,
where one boards a ship to go to the palace island

The Palace

This is from the on-line brochure of the Bavarian Administration of state palaces, gardens, and lakes

The four images are linked to that brochure

The Palace Gardens

Castles were not Ludwig's only passion, but he was so impressed with Louis XIV's Versailles, that he not only wanted to recreate it here, but make it even more dazzling and ostentatious. I think that, had he lived to finish this, he might well have succeeded.

The fountains would come on periodically
